People with COPD are weaker against the coronavirus!

COPD, which is one of the major lung problems, became another health nuisance for mankind during the coronavirus epidemic. People with COPD who are more susceptible to the coronavirus have to undergo a careful treatment process. Prof. Dr. Yalçın Karakoca provided information on this topic.

According to the World Health Organization, the current number of people with COPD is 600 million. While 50 million people develop this disease every year, around 3 million of them die. As is the case with asthma, people with lower respiratory diseases, especially smokers and especially those with old age COPD, are more susceptible to the virus around the world. Mr Karakoca emphasized that COPD patients are at a higher risk of losing their lives during the coronavirus epidemic compared to healthy people because their immunity and lungs are weaker. COPD is the third deadliest disease. COPD damages the cells in the lungs, and when incurable damage occurs, the cells in the lungs are deactivated. Probiotics like vinegar, homemade yogurts, cucumber and beet juice are the elements that correct the intestinal flora. Their use is also very useful in treating allergic diseases.Colloquially known as chronic bronchitis, COPD is a disease characterized by the restriction of airflow when breathing due to narrowing of the airways. COPD is a progressive disease that develops due to non-microbial inflammation of the airways from tobacco smoke, noxious gases, and particulates. As the airways gradually narrow because of this inflammation, the air sacs in the lung tissue are enlarged and destroyed irreversibly. Only a tenth of people with COPD are aware of their illness. On average, symptoms of COPD are not noticed until the age of 50. The main reason for this is because the person is unaware of the symptoms of COPD or associates them with smoking. In fact, a chronic cough and sputum are the first signs of the onset of the disease. These findings are often overlooked and the patient does not see his doctor until he complains of breathlessness. And when you get breathless, it can be too late.

THE BIGGEST RISK: SMOKING!

The most important reason for developing COPD is active consumption of cigarettes / tobacco products or passive smoke exposure. In addition, several other environmental and genetic factors are also very effective in the progression of the disease. The most important known risk factor for COPD is the consumption of cigarettes or other tobacco products, whereby indoor air pollution – especially in underdeveloped and developing countries (such as baking or cooking in tandoori) – is an important risk factor for COPD. In our country, and especially in rural areas, this is the main cause of COPD among non-smokers. Environmental factors or occupational exposure to various gases and dusts are also important risk factors for developing COPD. The congenital alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency is the most important known genetic risk factor, although we come across it less often in our country. Colloquially known as chronic bronchitis, COPD is a disease characterized by the restriction of airflow when breathing due to narrowing of the airways. In patients with constriction of the trachea and thickening of the mucus-producing cells, similar to smoking and tobacco consumption, the trachea is cleaned and treated in an expanding manner.
